NEWS FROM OCTOBER 2018
October was another blessed month! We are so thankful for all of the people that support The Lighthouse Cafe Ministries of the Glades. A very special thanks to the Feeding South Florida food bank who blessed us with plenty of chicken, and Dunklin Memorial who graciously donated ground beef to us allowing us to provide some variety to our menu! Additionally, a big thanks to Keith Wedgworth for initiating the “10-gallon milk challenge” in our community! Mr. Wedgworth challenged other local businesses, such as David Rimes of Lake Welding, to donate 10-gallons of milk to a charity of their choice. Accepting the challenge, Lake Welding then donated 10-gallons of milk and challenged Sean Campbell of Glades Funeral Home! Plus, even more businesses have accepted the challenge for November! Thank you so much to everyone for making our Glades communities the best!
It’s hard to believe its been it has been 19-month since Christ Fellowship surprised us with a total remodel of our dining room! We are so appreciative to everyone who made this possible and continues to support us in keeping our cafe beautiful such as Kathy Cross at Everglades Trading Co. It is so exciting that Christ Fellowship is opening a service location in the Glades! On October 27th they held a “soft opening” worship service at the Life Center which was well-attended and inspirational.
Also in October, Xi Zeta Mu Sorority invited me to attend their monthly meeting and update them on all of our latest happenings. They were very enthusiastic to support us with a donation of hygiene items for our Christmas gift bags. If you missed our last newsletter, as the holiday season approaches, we have begun planning for our annual personal hygiene gift bags. We give these out each year at Christmas time to the patrons of the LHC. This year, we are requesting (new, unopened) donations of shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant (male and female), soap, disposable razors, shaving cream, body lotion, wide tooth combs, washcloths, and bath towels. Thankfully, we have already received plenty of toothbrushes, so we are already able to cross that item off the list! If you would like to donate any of these items, please contact me for pick up at 561-993-7020. Thank you in advance for helping with this project!
Throughout the month, we served 4,005 hot meals and 1,196 children’s snacks for the Life Center! We were also able to assist several of our patrons with transportation to their doctor’s appointments. Thank you to everyone who makes this possible!
Most importantly, pray for the Lighthouse Cafe, our volunteers, and our patrons. Every day we see those who are addicted to drugs and alcohol, as well as suffering from mental illness. We strive to treat them each as Jesus would.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
