NEWS FROM DECEMBER 2017

December began with an amazing group of volunteers from Bank of America dedicating twelve days of service to the Lighthouse Cafe! We were honored that they chose to volunteer with us, and their help in preparing and serving the meals at the Life Center was very much appreciated!

On Saturday, December 2nd, I attended the Great Charity Challenge drawing at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. Congratulations to this year's lucky nonprofits who will be competing for a share of the $1.5 million prize on Saturday, February 3, 2018! While we were not drawn to participate this year, many great organizations such as the Quantum House and the Glades Initiative, Inc. were welcomed as participants in this year's challenge!

On December 13th, we received a special visit from the Glades Leadership Class of 2017. They learned all about the Lighthouse Cafe's history, and they took a grand tour of the incredible improvements that have been accomplished over the last year! That same day, we also had volunteers from the Tea Club at Glades Central High School. They were a fantastic group, and it was a pleasure having them visit us!

For months, we have been collecting hygiene items to create gift bags for our patrons, and we were so excited to finally give them out at our big Christmas dinner on December 22! They were all so appreciative of these gift bags, and it was truly a blessing to see their gratitude! Then, on December 16th, Randi Pontilla dropped off jackets and warm clothing that her husband Paul had been collecting for us! We are so thankful for their generosity.

2017 was a year full of unimaginable blessings!! We have been so blessed by all the people that have supported the Lighthouse Cafe over the years, and especially this year with our remodeling projects! We absolutely love our dining room that was transformed by Christ Fellowship; our much-needed walk-in freezer and refrigerator; the life-saving washer and dryer; our remodeled restroom for our volunteers; and, last, but certainly not least... our amazing remodeled kitchen!

Collectively, we are just so thankful to be blessed with being able to serve our Lord through serving His children! We love what we do and are grateful for your ongoing support! We look forward to continuing to fulfill our mission throughout 2018!

With Love,

Martha Lynn Weeks
