Reflecting back on the past few months, the Lighthouse Cafe has ultimately been blessed beyond measure! On March 6th, Christ Fellowship’s Pastor, Julie Mullins, visited us along with Becky Kyle and a film crew. She and Becky helped serve lunch and then took a filmed tour of the Lighthouse Cafe. After the tour, Pastor Julie sat down and interviewed me to learn more about the Lighthouse Cafe’s history, day-to-day operations, and the plans for the future. Then, after our interview, she moved on to interview Paul and Debra Allen.
Little did I know, there was a huge surprise that was planned to be announced at the end of our interviewing sessions! Pastor Julie began by telling us that Christ Fellowship appreciates our ministry and partnership with the Life Center so much, that they would love to bless us with a total remodel of the Lighthouse Cafe’s dining room! To say the least, we were surprised, excited, and emotionally thankful!
The remodel officially began on March 15th! Then, just several days later, on March 20th, the project was completed and Pastor Julie returned for the filming of the reveal. Everything turned out absolutely beautiful! From the paint, overhead lights, and ceiling fans to the stainless steel coffee service counter, decorative details, and new tables and chairs – the dining room was completely transformed! Then, on Easter Sunday, Christ Fellowship presented the video of the interview during the beginning of their church services. It was almost surreal to watch! We invite you to watch the video on our website www.TheLightHouseCafe.org and feel firsthand the love that went into making this project a reality! We are so thankful for Christ Fellowship’s ongoing support of the Lighthouse Cafe, as well as their dedication to their ministry for the children of Belle Glade at the Life Center.
During all of this excitement, we were also moving forward with the walk-in freezer/refrigerator project! As of now, we are happy to announce this project is also completed! We have a walk-in freezer and refrigerator right off the back of our kitchen! In addition, we are thrilled that we now also have a laundry room with a washer and dryer, as well as a bathroom for the volunteers! Having this washer and dryer means that myself or Mr. Roosevelt will not have to take home the aprons and dish towels to wash and bring back on a regular basis! Collectively, all of these improvements provided us with some much-needed storage space, which I can’t even describe how much this was needed for the efficiency of cooking and storing food! While we still have one big future project remaining – the kitchen remodel, we are beyond grateful for all of the incredible improvements that have been made throughout this year! We truly thank all of the people that donated funds for this remodel project! Your continued support is what allows our ministry to remain focused on positively impacting the lives of the people who come through those doors looking for a helping hand. To briefly share a few stories with you, just a week or so ago, Tandra took one of our patrons, Joe, who is deaf to his dentist appointment. Tandra has also been diligently working with another patron, Mrs. Walker, to get her birth certificate. She now has her correct birth certificate and we are currently helping her get to get her ID and insurance information updated and corrected. Hattie, another patron, was stranded in Georgia, so we arranged a bus ticket for her to safely return back and are in the process of working with her to allow her to repay the money for the cost of the ticket. To follow up with the story from last month with Warren; he stayed in rehab for one month and has since returned to Belle Glade. When he first arrived back, he thought we would be disappointed in him that he did not stay longer. However, we let him know we are not disappointed in him, we are here to encourage him, and he is, of course, welcome back at the LHC. We continue to let him know that if he decides he needs to return to rehab, we will certainly help him to go back.
Last, but not least, as a result of the video shown at Christ Fellowship, a lovely lady, Sheri Mace McDonald, reached out to us to bless us by donating shoes, towels, blankets, hygiene packs, salt, pepper, season salt, chopped tomatoes, and several other items to stock our shelved with. Thank you so much, Sheri!
We would love for you to come visit us and see the exciting new renovations! If you or someone you know would like to volunteer or visit, contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or 561-993-7020.
As always, keep us in your prayers!
Love and Blessings,
Martha Lynn Weeks
