November was a very busy and rewarding month! November 10th, Chef Pedro Alaniz came to the LHC and cooked a feast of Beef Fajitas, Red Rice, and Pinto Beans. It was delicious, and we enjoyed having Chef Pedro’s company! We look forward to him returning sometime soon!

November 14th, I helped Dawn Donaldson support the middle school students from the Life Center to bake chocolate chip cookies from scratch! The kids did a great job, and it was fun to work with them. Then, on the 16th, Debra Allen and I represented The Light House Cafe and Ella’s Closet at the Farm City Luncheon where we received a lot of attention from people interested in our programs!

Next, on November 18th, Debra and I attended the “Quantum in the Community Breakfast Celebration,” where we received a grant of $20,000! We were beyond grateful for the generosity of all involved in making this a possibility! This grant will go a long way to support the Light House Cafe, and is much needed for the upcoming renovations!

With great excitement, on November 22, we held our Thanksgiving Dinner. We served Turkey, Dressing, Mashed Potatoes with Gravy, Collard Greens, Cranberry Sauce,  Dinner Rolls, and Dessert. It was a real feast!! In addition, Mrs. Millie Rodriquez from Health and Human services, as well as Brenda Bunting and Melanie Grimes from the Belle Glade Chamber of Commerce were a part of the Thanksgiving celebration as the passed out hygiene gift bags. Everyone greatly appreciated these bags!

Following the Thanksgiving Feast, The Light House Cafe was closed the rest of the week to allow all of our dedicated volunteers spend time with family and have a well-deserved rest. Upon returning on the 28th, we were thrilled to be visited by Stephanie Glavin and Guy Guenthner, both representatives from The Bank of America, as they presented The Light House Cafe with a check for $5,000 in honor of “Giving Tuesday.” This will go to the Capital remodeling project. Once again, we were beyond grateful for the generosity of all involved in making this a possibility! God is truly wonderful! This grant will also go a long way to support the Light House Cafe and the much-needed renovations!

As we go into December, we are much closer to our funding goal needed for the upcoming renovations! We deeply thank everyone who has donated and for their incredible generosity. If you are interested in giving to help us raise the full funding amount needed for the renovations, you may contact us at, or securely make a donation via PayPal Giving Fund by clicking here. We thank you in advance for your continued support in making a difference in the lives of so many people in the Western Glades Communities!

Love and Blessings,
