NEWS FROM DECEMBER 2019
December 2019 ended the year & decade with many wonderful memories! We started the month by decorating the café for the holidays. Volunteers, patrons, & a fantastic group from Career Source helped trim the Christmas trees & add festive decor throughout the dining room. Career Source also served lunch after helping decorate. We are so thankful for their time with us! We were also blessed with another amazing group of young adults from Glades Central High School’s Tea & Book Club led by Mrs. Cecilia Harriott, & Spanish Club, led by Ms. Stospal. These students helped prepare & lunch, as well as clean up! They were such a big help!
On December 10th Paul & Debra Allen spoke at the Rotary Club to update the members on all of the current happenings at The Light House Café & Ella’s Closet. The Rotary Club also presented us with a donation, which we are very grateful to have received. On the same day, Brittany Russell & I attended a workshop on grant writing at Glades Initiative, where we learned about upcoming grant opportunities offered throughout our area. Then, on December 16th, Leadership Glades came for another visit! Paul & Debra Allen & Jayna Key provided them with an overview of the history & the future plans for both The Light House Café & Ella’s Closet.
On December 23rd, we held our annual Christmas event, where we served a delicious meal & gave out hygiene gift bags. We served 203 people in our dining room & 50 homebound patrons, & each was also given a gift bag. District Chief Justin Schainuck & his family, Brittany Russell & her family, & Owen Robinson, Lorena Fuentes, Venessa Brown, & Shermita Schetinni from Selling Sunset Realty came to volunteer. From preparing, serving, & cleaning up, they all were such a great help. PBSO also sent six awesome deputies to help us keep everyone safe & the line flowing smoothly. For the second year, The Blossom Club from Lake Shore Middle School also came & brought gift bags to be passed out to the patrons after they ate their meals. They also helped distribute amazing gift bags donated by Mr. Derrick Moore, as well as gift bags donated by Evelyn McClendon & Ja Vonte Mottley from Working For A Purpose. From the volunteers to the donations, we are so thankful to everyone who made our 2019 Christmas event an incredible success!
As we wrapped up another year, I want to personally thank every person that has donated, served, & prayed for us. We are truly grateful for your support & love. On behalf of the staff & Board of Directors, we are looking forward to continued success throughout 2019 & are excited to fulfill the plans that the Lord has for The Light House Café.
