NEWS FROM OCTOBER 2019
Although it is still hot like August, we know it is fall as the sugar cane trucks are back on the road, we see the cane fires, and the traffic has picked up considerably! Plus, many of the delicious things grown here in the Glades area are soon to be harvested! It is also that time of the year to begin preparing for our holiday festivities! This year, we are planning for our Thanksgiving Dinner to be held on November 26th.
On October 11th, we welcomed the L.O.T. Health Services to the Light House Café to meet with patrons. Their mission is to offer free medical services for all ages, races, and ethnicities who lack financial resources. They team up with local doctors to provide services for Mental Health, Cardiology, Neurology, General Surgery, Imaging Services, Vision, and Dental. This visit focused more specifically on eye exams, and they will come back with glasses for patrons that need them.
In October, Stanley Steamer came to clean the dining room, kitchen, back hallway, and seal the tile. With 150-200 people walking in and out Monday through Friday, there is a lot of dirt tracked. This will help keep the Café looking nice and clean.
This past month, we also welcomed Sandra Jean-Baptiste from the Feeding South Florida Food Bank for our yearly inspection. Sandra was well pleased with everything, and we passed with flying colors!
For October, we served 1,205 breakfasts, 3,344 lunches, and 988 snacks.
As always, thank you for your continued support! We couldn’t fulfill our mission without the ongoing support of our community!
