NEWS FROM SEPTEMBER 2018
My annual vacation began on the first of September, and I was able to leave with full confidence that the Light House Café would continue to operate exactly as needed by our amazing volunteers! While I was out, many meals continued to be cooked and served. To be exact, throughout the entire month we served a total of 2,646 lunches, 877 breakfasts, and 1,040 after-school snacks! This could not happen without our dedicated volunteers; we are very grateful for each and every one of them!
In the last newsletter, we requested gently used shoes. On behalf of the LHC, a big thank you goes out to Barbara Scruggs and the members of the Laureate Gamma Zeta Sorority for the many pairs of shoes they donated! Another incredible story I would like to share is about a young lady who is a recent high school graduate. This month, she applied for a job at McDonald’s and needed to attend a training in LaBelle. We were able to provide her with transportation to the training, and we are excited to announce that she successfully completed the training and was officially hired! She is planning to begin taking classes at Palm Beach State College after the new year, and we want her to know that we are here to continue cheering her on!
On September 18th, the JTC Bike Shop began a six-week “Cooking Matters Class” hosted at the Light House Cafe. We are honored to allow them to utilize our kitchen and dining room one day per week for this valuable experience! For those who may not know about the “Jesus The Christ (JTC) Bike Shop,” it is an incredible program for middle school boys and girls to learn how to repair and restore bicycles while also learning about God’s love for them!
As the holiday season approaches, we have begun planning for our annual personal hygiene gift bags. We give these out each year at Christmas time to the patrons of the LHC. This year, we are requesting (new, unopened) donations of shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, razors, shaving cream, body lotion, washcloths, and bath towels. Thankfully, we have already received plenty of toothbrushes, so we are already able to cross that item off the list! If you would like to donate any of these items, please contact me for pick up at 561-993-7020. Thank you in advance for helping with this project!
As always, we ask that you keep all of us at the Light House Café in your prayers as we go about the work of God.
