Watching every news update, focused on preparing for a direct hit, September 2019, will undoubtedly be remembered as the month of Hurricane Dorian! Thankfully, we were spared, but our neighbors in the Bahamas were tragically impacted, and we continue to pray for them daily.

This time of the year, we feel like we are finally back to a regular routine from the summer months with school back in session, and many of the workers returning from Georgia. During this transitional time of the farming seasons, many people are searching to secure jobs. In addition to serving hot, nutritious meals, we also strive to be a source of information about educational opportunities, medical help, and other opportunities for self-improvement.

On September 25th, The Light House Cafe and Ella’s Closet were honored to receive the Karen & Mike Stuart Humanitarian Award at the 2019 FFVA Convention! Debra Allen, Founder of Ella’s Closet, and Jayna Key, Ella’s mom, were excited to accept the award and represent both ministries. In addition, Rev Dr. Robert Rease spoke on behalf of both ministries, thanking the FFVA for honoring us with this award.

During September, we served 2,978 lunches and 1,143 breakfast, and 780 snacks to children in the local aftercare program. We are so grateful to be able to serve our community and the people in need. As always, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who generously gives and supports our ministries – we couldn’t do it without you!

God Bless,

Martha Lynn Weeks
