NEWS FROM NOVEMBER 2017
On November 1st, I was invited to speak on behalf of the Light House Café at the Quantum Breakfast Celebration. Bernard Robinson also spoke alongside me and so elegantly shared his story about how the Light House Café has impacted his life and how much our ministry means to him. Bernard told about his struggles with drug addiction and how the Light House Café was there for him with love and guidance to lead him to the resources that he needed to overcome his addiction. At the conclusion of his speech, Bernard received a standing ovation from the crowd and was utterly overwhelmed by their response to his story. In ministry, it is not every day that you get to concretely see or experience the outcome of our dedication and servitude. Therefore, I was so grateful to have had this wonderful opportunity to witness first-hand the full-circle of the impact that can be made in the lives of the people by remaining focused on loving and serving others.
Our Thanksgiving Dinner was held on November the 21st. We served a delicious spread of turkey, dressing, gravy, collard greens, sweet potatoes, rolls, cranberry sauce, apple cobbler, peach cobbler, and sweet tea! It was indeed a feast! We also gave out a hygiene bag to each person, which they were very thankful to receive. The Thanksgiving holiday is such a special time of the year to inspire us to look back and reflect on our blessings with gratefulness and appreciation, and then return our thanks with a giving heart. Reflecting back, after Hurricane Irma it took nearly two months for the Feeding South Florida Food Bank to get back on track with food distributions, especially meats. However, as usual, a miracle presented itself, and we were able to continue to serve hot meals as planned. This scenario, as well as so many others, makes all of us at the Light House Cafe beyond grateful for your ongoing support, and, of course, God’s amazing grace to be able to serve His people. With that being said, during the month of November we have served a total of 833 breakfasts, 1,472 lunch, 1,260 snacks for the after-school kids, and delivered 665 plates those who are sickly; totaling 4,230 meals!
As we quickly approach Christmas, we are diligently working to gather items to create more hygiene gift bags to provide to people who do not even have the basic necessities. If you would like to help, we have included the list below, and it can also be found on our website and Facebook page. Thank you to everyone who has already donated items to help us be able to spread Christmas joy through the giving of these bags!
